Common questions
Will a dehumidifier kill mold?+
It dries air so growth has a harder time continuing. It does not remove mold from drywall. Clean or cut out what is already growing, within the small hard-surface rule, and keep the air dry so it does not return.
Where should the humidistat live?+
Trust a separate hygrometer at chest or pillow height in the room, and set the machine until that gauge agrees. Built-in sensors sit in the machine's own airstream and can read a little optimistic.
Can I vent it out a window instead?+
Dehumidifiers put heat into the room and water down a hose. You do not vent them like a portable AC, unless the manual describes a specific setup. Read the hose instructions. Skip the cardboard window kit from the wrong product.
